Surveillance on Extended Spectrum β-lactamase and AmpC β-lactamase producing gram negative isolates from nosocomial infections

Extended spectrum beta lactamases (ESBLs) and AmpC beta-lactamases conferring resistance to expanded-spectrum cephalosporins, continue to be a major problem in health care settings. Knowledge of their occurrence is essential to guide the clinicians towards the appropriate anti-microbial treatment. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the incidence of ESBL and AmpC β-lactamases, and to analyse their antibiotic susceptibility in nosocomial gram-negative clinical isolates from a tertiary care hospital.
